CHAT WITH CHRIS ODEH

Chris Odeh is a producer, project manager and marketer. He is the Founder and senior producer for Sozo Films, as well as Talent Manager for Ramsey Films. He co-owns Ibuzor Studios and Project Arewa -indigenous content production companies - which he runs with some partners, and has produced content for both local and international platforms like Homevida, MNET, Africa Magic, ESSPIN and a host of others. Some of the movies he has produced or co-produced are Make a Move, Learning Curves, Oloibiri Retold, ‘Chasing Hanifa’. He also has television shows and documentaries like The Dr. Ketch Show, ACGSF, and, Chapters in his portfolio. His script titled Enitan won the award for the Best Child Friendly Short Film in the 2011 Homevida awards, and he has worked with notable actors in the industry, both local and international. Calabar and Film

Calabar is a city where entertainment thrives. The yearly carnival which is viewed nationwide and beyond is like a homecoming event with residents and visitors on the streets in December, basking in the euphoria. The city gained some momentum in film when Ebonylife TV occupied the ultra- modern Tinapa Studios, shooting world class drama series and reality shows; while hosting the African International Film Festival (AFRIFF) in 2013 and 2014, that had guests from over ten African countries as well as the United States and the United Kingdom; and also,  by holding the Cross River Movie Awards, which brings celebrities from across the country.

STRIKING A BALANCE BETWEEN HUSTLING AND MAKING TIME FOR YOUR KIDS

In this fast-paced generation, the gulf between parents and their children is getting wider. It is caused by responsibilities that pile up daily. You are thinking of paying house rent, school fees, water bill, electricity bill, for car maintenance and domestic services, piano lessons and feeding the family, to mention but a few. Imagine a parent- living in Lagos, Nigeria – who has to leave home at 5am and return at 10pm, when the kids are already in bed. The job becomes a necessary evil, putting food on the table, but ensuring the kids are raised by teachers as well as Cecilia, the domestic staff, and Akpan the driver. They run with what they can remember from the morning dose of instruction, and toss in a thing or two from their own upbringing.

PICKING UP THE PIECES

Yesterday on Facebook and Instagram, we talked about hope, of how people need to keep their eyes on their dreams and fix them there, till their whole beings gravitate towards their dreams.

Rita, a young teenage girl who was bullied constantly by her peers, decided to start fighting back, she had had enough. News got to her father that his daughter hit someone else's child in the neighbourhood, without asking her about it, he got home and gave her the beating of a lifetime.

NEW YEAR FUSS

As the final scene of 2016 ends and the curtain being drawn gradually falls; the crowd cheers, outstanding performers grin with pride while those who made mistakes are sullen and wish they did better.

When it is time for the bow, they all greet their audience from a distance. Some smile excitedly for the crowd while others put up plastic smiles, waiting to just end the show and walk right out of the stage.
